How to Build a Glasshouse - Basic Structure

Floor of the glasshouse is reinforced concrete approximately 75mm (3in)
thick with the footings strengthened to about 200mm (5in) thick around
the edges. Using scrap timber, make the formwork to receive the
concrete, nail temporary lengths of timber across the formwork with
holes accurately positioned to take holding-down bolts. It is easier to
position bolts before commencing concreting than trying to accurately
place them after pouring.

Concrete is four parts metal, two parts sand, one part cement,
reinforced with welded reinforcing mesh or with 6mm or 8mm steel rods
laid to form a 300m mesh. Leave floor approximately seven days to set.
Plan shows a solid concrete floor over complete area; as an alternative
a 200mm wide x 200mm deep (9in x 9in) strip footing can be poured under
plates with the main glasshouse area covered with a layer of gravel or
ashes.
